Introduction
It started off the same. I was running through a bayou. I didn’t know who or what I was running from, but all I knew was that I had to run. And as it happened Every time, in every dream, I would keep running till I reached a clearing with a muddy river. At that time, I would slip on the mud and catch myself on the giant oak tree that stood just a few yards from the river. And Every time I would pull myself up from the ground, and look around for the invisible danger that had been chasing me. And usually I would find that there was nothing there, and I would breath a sigh of relief. And that’s what I did this time, and usually I would wake up at this time, but this dream was different. As I stood with my back against the tree, waiting to wake up, I heard a growl come from behind me. My body froze up with fear, as I watched a giant, black wolf, that had the most crystal blue eyes, walk from behind the tree, and walk right up to me. Instead of attacking me, like most predators do, the wolf sat in front of me, and bowed it’s head. And seeing the wolf, I felt an odd sense of peace, and that’s when I finally awoke.

"My dearest Valentina, if you're reading this, I am so sorry."

My eyes welled up with tears as I wrote. I shouldn't even be writing this. I thought to myself. But this is how things have to be. "Along your journey, you will find there are secrets I have kept hidden from you." I am so sorry Valentina. I never wanted to lie to you. I never wanted this life for you. I pushed my tears back as I finished writing the letter.

After sealing the letter in an envelope and writing where it needed to go on the front, I walked to my mailbox outside, and dropped it inside. On my way back up the stone path, I felt a shiver go up my spine. Someone is watching me. I looked around, but I didn't see anyone. I hurried back inside. I locked the door after shutting it behind me.

I walked into the kitchen to make some coffee. After changing out the filter, and rinsing out the pot, I switched the maker on. I had been drinking coffee more and more lately. I need to start sleeping more. I finished making my cup, and headed to the living room.

I set my cup on the table and plopped on the couch. I picked up the remote and started flipping through the channels. After a few minutes, I finally settled on a movie. It looked like it was about halfway over. I grabbed my cup from the table, sat back, and propped my feet on the table.

I think I must have dozed off at some point because when I woke up, the movie I had been watching was over. I pulled myself off the couch and went into the kitchen to place my cup into the already over-flowing sink. I need to wash these. When was the last time I did them? I thought to myself.

As I was standing there thinking to myself, I felt the same shiver that I felt before. Someone's here. I thought. I turned around to look, but once again, there was no one there. "Hello? Is there someone there?" I called out. My words echoed throughout the empty house. There's no one here. You're just paranoid.

I shake my head and head out of the kitchen and began shutting of the light as I walk throughout the house. I went up the stairs, and just as I reached the top, I felt it again. That same shiver. There is someone watching you. I swung myself around and peered down the dark stairs. "Hello? I know you're there!" And there was something about the silence that spoke back to me. It wasn't an empty silence.

Run. I quickly turned around and flew up the stairs and into my room, locking the door as I shut it. I began to back away from when I heard what sounded like a floorboard creek. I kept backing up until I back bumped into the dresser, knocking a picture of Valentina to the ground.

Knock, Knock, Knock. There were three quick rasps at my door. I held my breath and said nothing. I watched as the shadow that was under my door disappeared. I didn't move until the sound of retreating footsteps was completely gone. I breathed a sigh of relief.

As I bent over to pick up the picture frame, I hear a loud thud, as I watch as a man kicked my bedroom door in. He wore a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black and green camo boots. His hair was blonde and it reached his shoulders. He charged towards me and I backed myself into the corner.

He grabbed me by the throat and lifted me into the air. "Where is she?" He barked out. "Where is the Alpha's daughter?" He asked me. I let out a laugh as he got angrier. "I'll never tell you where she is." I told him. He tightened his grip on my throat.

He glanced down at Valentina's picture that was still on the ground and back at me. He smiled as he said, "We will find her eventually. You cannot hide her forever." He glanced over at the window that was only a few feet away, before looking back at me. He let out a small laugh before he threw me out the window.

I didn't feel any pain at first, but it was only a few seconds before the searing pain spread throughout my body. My breaths were short and painful, and it became very hard to breath. I could feel death coming. So with my last few moments of life, I prayed. Please! I cried out in my mind. Don't let them find her. I know I'm only a human, but please, Moon Goddess, protect her. And before I could say anymore, the darkness consumed me.
