Alpha Diego's POV

..

I sat tiredly on the chair, releasing a heavy sigh of perspiration. I could hear the drums heavily yet meticulously beating announcing the commencement of the biggest event an hour from now.

In less than an hour, the Thanksgiving celebration that usually takes us a week to prepare for would be held.

All morning, I had worked severely and solely for this purpose, you can say it's one thing that keeps an Alpha extremely busy like a slave; although in vehemently different ways.

Five years ago after the Syria sword was discovered and gifted to my pack by my father on his dying bed; I made sure a day, at least, every year, was dedicated to worship it and offer thanks to the moon goddess for this unprecedented and restricted act of kindness and protection.

It's a secret that the sword is the source of our protection and most of our wins in the pack, especially in times of war like this.

The sword was a quest from my first fathers and it was discovered by my father and passed down to me. Only I know of its strength and its blessings to our pack. Well, not exactly I alone but my Luna-to-be also know of all the purposes of the Syria sword. Just yesterday, I told her everything there is about the sword and how it made us victorious in times of war. Our connection seem to wax stronger every day and despite her former mate's marking, I was willing to make her mine.

Our love story was written out of the blues, I grew from detesting her to loving her more than anything else. I mean, you don't get to see an Alpha falling so deeply for a human captive regularly, right?

For her cause, I was willing to damn any consequences, to protect her with all of me. Telling her about the sword was already a risk for not just myself but the pack at large but I didn't feel that way about it, I felt our connection blossoming its way into extreme delightfulness when I revealed that daring secret to her.

Our love life was perfect, we had just the same measure of love for each other and the only thing left was to make her fully mine.

I snapped out of my thought when the door opened and the chief maid walked in, I could feel she was coming to inform me to get ready for the feast but her countenance was somewhat indifferent.

"Alpha," she bowed in cognizance of my authority, "t-the Luna is nowhere to be found, Alpha"

The look of satisfaction swiped off my face at her words.

Just to be clear, firstly, Kyra wasn't officially a Luna but considering she would be soonest, I demanded that she be addressed with the title.

A grimace rested on my face, "what do you mean she is nowhere to be found? You ought to be with her until the end of today!"

"Yes Alpha, but earlier when the royal dressers came, she refused them entrance and chose to prepare for the festival alone. She ordered me to leave her room and locked up behind me.

I waited two hours at her doorpost, waiting for her to finish up but she wasn't coming out and when I knocked, there was no response. I began to panic, so I alerted a guard and we broke down the door, I-I discovered that the room was empty. The window glasses were broken as well with a strong rope hanging down it"

"Broken?!" I stood up, my heart rate taking a feisty knack. "What are you--

"Alpha!" Beta Zayr walked in, panic in his voice. "Alpha--

"Speak!" I cut him off in impatience and he bowed.

"The s-sword--"

"Yes?" I interrupted again, already getting annoyed by his stutterings.

"The sword is missing, Alpha" his voice shook.

"What?!" My eyes lighted up to their fullest. "W-what are you saying Zayr?!" At this point, I was certain, that my breathing wasn't there anymore.

"The sword is--

His words were uncompleted, this time not by my interruptions but by the heavy clanging of metals and cries for help, it soon got deafening.

"What is happening?!" I yelled to him, but he also looked lost.

"Alpha," warrior Logan came scramming in, his hurried steps disheveled. "Blackfur pack. They are here.. W-war!" His words were just as messed up as his steps.

"War? What w--

I didn't get to complete my sentence before an arrow shot right through warrior Logan, penetrating greatly into his skin and dropping to the floor from his back; bloodied.

A scream of horror from Cora, the chief maid, joined that of the ones outside.

"Alpha, we have to leave!" beta Zayr said, already leading the way.

"This is a time of peace, Zayr. Why is there a war?"

"The blackfur are attacking us unaware. I have to get you to safety first, you cannot be discovered by them just yet--"

"But Kyra.." I paused from following him. "Kyra isn't here. I need to find her first!"

"Do you care most about that lowly human captive than your life, then your members life?!"

"She is my member, Zayr. I care about her just as much as I care about everyone else! You shall not speak of her in that manner!" I said, almost not believing we were getting into that argument again, especially at a time like this.

"I'm sorry, Alpha--

"Go ahead, save as many members as you can. I will find Kyra myself"

"But Alpha--

"We'll be fine" I assured and without waiting for his response, I exited the room, running towards my chambers. I arrived there and walked to the wall opposite the door, I spread my palm on a side of the wall; it glowed and a pin was required.

Aside from Kyra, only I knew about this emergency passageway to the sword keeper, not even My Beta is aware.

It's a passageway that only I can activate and make use of. Except for yesterday, when I took Kyra with me down this path and revealed everything to her.

The wall gave way to a door and I rushed into it, arriving at the small constructive passageway that easily led to the glowing sword of Syria.

I arrived at the darkroom that is usually illuminated by the glitters from the sword rare stones. It was now dark; almost completely gloomy.

I staggered back in horror as realization fully dawned on me. My jaw dropped; my heart pounding in my chest.

Indeed, the sword is missing! The Syria sword is missing!

Our sword of protection is missing amid a blood demanding attack.

An attack from Kyra's former pack, a pack where I singlehandedly slew her mate and claimed her as my property.
