Love and Power

Ava was in front of Asher, his fingers entangled in her hair while the faint sound of water dripping from the rocks into the river was heard in the background. He just gave her good news and she was overjoyed. His crowning was just a few days away, then the mating ceremony and he had never been this happy before.

“Now you can be my queen,” Asher said and she felt an emotion that cannot be put into words. They had been in love for months, and since she found out that she was his mate, they had been looking forward to the night he would bite her and make her his Luna. “And I will also be the high priestess of my mother’s clan,” Ava said with happiness in her voice. But then Asher’s face fell, and she knew that something was wrong.

“What is it? Is something wrong with that?” Ava inquired, seeing him frown. Asher’s response tore a hole through her heart. “You will be my Luna and my mate, Ava. You can’t be the high priestess of your coven and my Luna and mate at the same time. It will be too much work for you and I don’t want that for you if you will be my Luna. You don’t even have to be the high priestess anymore.” Ava felt her heart sink, as her mother’s clan’s high priestess position had always been for her, being a weak omega, she had always been waiting for the day she would fit in her mother’s clan.

“Can’t I do both, Asher? You know everyone despises the sight of me because I am an omega with a weak wolf, but being the high priestess, I will be respected and bring so much benefit to your reign. Also, I am the rightful heir to the position," Ava said. However, Asher remained resolute.

“You would be my Luna, Ava, my queen, and no one will ever say no to you because they know you are the most powerful in the pack, an omega or not And besides, Raven is there She is from the same bloodline as you and can always take over as the high priestess,” Asher reasoned. Ava realized he had a point, and although, she wanted attention, Asher had been with her for months and saw her when other members of the werewolf pack did not even look at her, including her father.

“Do this for me, Ava. Please,” Asher said, his gaze still on her. She nodded slowly and her heart was warmed by the things he said. “I will do this because I love you.” Asher wrapped his arms around her and she felt all her anxiety disappear. He had always been there for her, making her feel the butterflies in her stomach and her insides turn to mush. Nonetheless, he cared for her, defended her and provided for her, without any regard to the fact that her witch powers were stronger than his wolf.

When they hugged, Ava realized that she had made the right decision. She would relinquish the high priestess position for Asher, for their love, and for the life they would have ahead of them. She was willing to be his Luna, his queen, and be by his side as they governed the pack as a couple. The words gave her goose pimples and she was fully aware that no force on earth could come between them and their love.

Ava was in her room sewing her dress for the naming ceremony when Raven walked in looking rather displeased. “Are you sure you want to do this, Ava?” Raven asked, her gaze still on the dress. “I don’t wish to be the queen of the Capris clan, Ava It is your fate.”

Ava raised her head, her face set. ”I love Asher, Raven. Even when you were too busy learning how to use your powers well and forgot all about me, he has always been there for me. I love him.” She said, and there was a tinge of bitterness in her voice.

Raven’s face dropped and Ava could see the disappointment in her eyes but she didn’t care. It was the truth. "You also spent that time honing your craft too, and you are going to be the high priestess now, and are the most skilled witch in this clan," Raven continued softly, "Do not do this to yourself, Ava. Do not stray from the path of Destiny for a man who is probably using you…"

Ava interrupted her, her tone shrill. “Enough, Raven! You trained and trained so hard for so long to be the second in command of the next high priestess which I wasn’t sure was me before the vision selected me. You can be the high priestess now instead.” She shouted, taking her half-finished dress and the basket of materials and leaving the room.

Raven followed her, his voice getting louder. “You are trying to break the bloodline, Ava. You do not know as much as I do because I am a seer. I can see the future…” Ava whirled around, her eyes blazing.

“Mind your own business, Raven,” Ava snapped, crossing her arms over her chest, “I don’t want to hear a single word from you. All I want now is you taking over and if you want what’s good for the clan, you will…”

Raven spoke the words aloud, and there was a certain venom in her voice. “How certain are you that he was not sent by your father to eliminate the clan seeing that he never glanced behind him after the death of your mother?” Ava froze, her heart racing.

“How confident are you that they are not using you to attempt to eliminate our clan because we are the only beings stronger than the werewolves, and if you, the most powerful in the next generation, are being deceived, then we will be able to descend and eliminate you all What if we all perish because of you, Ava?” Raven’s words were full of blame.

Ava scowled and her face turned red with anger. “You have not even considered that, all you are concerned with is yourself. You.” She said to Raven with venom in her voice.
