Sage excitedly pulled the sheets away from her body as she sprang up from bed. It was going to be an exciting morning with her mate. They had planned a lot of exciting things for today which would include marking her and she would finally become the Luna of Black Stone pack.
She rushed into the shower and had a nice warm bath. After dressing up in her favorite sleek white gown with a slit that reached up to her thighs, she let her golden brown hair fall over her shoulders. She looked so beautiful.
She thought to check up on alpha Adrian Locke, her chosen mate. He usually takes long to prepare, so she would go and hurry him up. Today belongs to her and she won't let Adrian slow things down!
She wanted to knock but stopped midway. She would give Adrian a surprise.
Sage's heart was beating rapidly as her excitement started taking the most out of her. She let out a large breath to calm herself.
Sage pushed the door open and felt colors drain from her face at the sight before her. Moans filled her ears and her nose didn't fail to pick the smell of sex in the room. She was in disbelief as she staggered back a bit.
Her mate was on top of her best friend, Talia, thrusting real fast into her body.
Sage felt she was going to get a panic attack watching their bodies entwined against each other. Her mate betrayed her with her best friend!
Her heart skipped when her gaze caught Talia's who winked at her as Adrian finally released into her body.
Sage couldn't stand it anymore. She turned and ran, as fast as her legs could carry her, until she was in her room. She locked the door behind her and slid down the floor. Then, she broke into tears. She felt the emotional pain like a punch to her gut. Sage felt nauseous as she remembered the scene that had played before her. It was like she was an outsider who had just intruded on some lovers privacy, while in reality it was her mate involved.
Initially, Sage refused to accept the reality of the situation. Probably, she had misunderstood the situation because she was too excited this morning but there was no denying what she saw. It was real! She was betrayed!
A violent knock suddenly came on the door but Sage was so lost in thoughts to respond. The knock came the second time, this time threatening to pull the door down.
"Sage, open this door right now!" Sage heard Adrian's furious voice and flinched. Her heart began to beat rapidly again. Maybe Adrian was here to explain the truth to her. Maybe he was here to convince her and confess his love to her, then mark her and take her out as planned.
With these thoughts, Sage sprang up and unlocked the door, after wiping her tears off her face. Adrian pushed in and almost banged the door on Sage's face but she was quick to avoid the hit.
"Why did you come there?" Adrian stood before Sage, staring at her with anger. He looked like he was repelled seeing her face alone.
"I... It's..." Sage swallowed hard with her eyes widely staring into Adrian's face, hoping to see a trace of affection for her. But there was none.
"You've seen it right? Yes! So what happens?" Sage lowered her head and tried to understand what Adrian meant. Isn't he going to apologize? Isn't he sorry for cheating on her with her best friend in their house?
"I don't understand..." Sage scanned the floor, struggling not to let the hot tears that had formed in her eyes out.
Talia walked in next. She was in a transparent lingerie that highlighted her nipples provocatively. She smelled like sex and her lips looked a bit swollen from kisses. Sage felt like dying when she caught Talia's gaze.
Talia wrapped her arms around Adrian's waist from behind and grinned slyly. That was when Sage realized that Adrian was not wearing a shirt too and there were bite marks all over their necks, like they were trying to mark each other. Sage's abdomen tightened at the thought of that.
Talia's hands went up and down Adrian's chest which forced a groan out of his mouth. He turned and kissed Talia violently.
"Adrian!" Sage had had enough. She lost everything for this man, even her family. Sage had announced to her father that she was going to be mates with Adrian Locke of Black Stone pack, and her father opposed her decision vehemently. Even her mother was willing to side with her mate against her own daughter — that was the beauty of the mate bond which even made Sage's resolve to be with Adrian stronger. Her father, alpha Wood of GreenWood pack was in enmity with the last alpha of Black Stone pack, a long borne enmity that the present alpha Locke had refused to resolve.
When Sage was presented with the choice of leaving with her lover and losing all ties with her family, Sage heartedly chose her lover. She believed that once she became officially mated with Adrian, she would bring the two packs together and didn't think twice about choosing him over her own family. At the end, alpha Wood disowned her and banned her from stepping foot in the pack.
Now, Adrian had betrayed her despite everything. Sage felt like her heart was being pricked a thousand times. It was a condition worse than death for her.
"I lost everything for you..." Her furious voice broke the kiss as she wiped the tears off her face. "My father disowned me because I fell in love with you. Why are you doing this to me?" More tears rushed down her burning cheeks.
"You are no match for me." Adrian scoffed as he pulled Talia into his arms before turning to Sage. "That's why. I don't hate you, but you are not fit to be Luna. Talia here..." Adrian turned to Talia again and kissed her forehead while Talia shamelessly giggled. "Will become the Luna and you..." Adrian turned back to Sage with so much disgust in his eyes. "Will be my breeder."
Sage felt the walls of her heart shatter and a violent tremor in her body. Probably she misheard. She has been in a relationship with Adrian since childhood while they were in school. First, they were best of friends which grew into being lovers. What has happened to their friendship from years back? How was it gone in just a night? Sage remembered the light moment they had last night over dinner and how Adrian had promised to officially mark her and dedicate today to her. What happened to that?
"What?" Sage's lips quivered as she weakly asked the question.
"You heard me right. First, you're shameless and selfish! You chose a man who doesn't love you at all over your family because you are foolishly obsessed with him. Second, you don't even have a wolf. You don't even know how to defend yourself or how to be a Luna. You will only make yourself a burden to both the pack and me. You are useless!"
His words were like a sharp sword that pierced Sage's heart violently. Her legs felt wobbly but she managed not to fall and humiliate herself the more. Adrian was spitting fire on her and it was burning her mercilessly.
"You wouldn't let me have you until I've placed my mark on you. You are a traditionalist! Don't you know that things have changed?"
"Was that why you've refused to mark me all these while?"
"What do you think?" A sinister smile appeared at the corner of Talia's lips. "Adrian has eyes only for me. He is merciful enough to accept you as a breeder upon my demand. I didn't want to leave you with nothing."
"So, Sage, do you accept to be my breeder? Not like you have any other option. I mean, you have no family to return to. The only home you know is here and I am only being kind enough to let you stay with a position in my life."
Sage clenched her fist and wiped the tears off her cheeks once more. She will not waste her precious tears for someone like Adrian. Although, she genuinely loves him, she will never allow herself share him with anyone, let alone her best friend. Talia was worse than Adrian himself, worse than a slut.
"I, Sage Wood of GreenWood pack cut all ties with you, Adrian Locke."
"You are worthless," Adrian said coldly. "I hate you more now than ever." He felt so much disgusted at her now than before.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk... Don't you think you should accept this opportunity while it lasts? I feel so bad for you if you choose to end up as a rogue roaming the public forest?" Talia mocked.
"I'd rather be a rogue than spend one more minute here." Sage brushed past Adrian who grabbed her arm and forced her to look up at him.
"I'll not accept you if you come back for my help. You still have a choice to become my breeder." Sage could see the longing in Adrian's eyes, like he still needs her around but Sage knew she was only imagining things.
"You will never see me again," she replied coldly, pushed Adrian's hand off her arm and walked out, not without taking a glance at Talia's grinning face.
