Nellie
“Can you stop that already”
“What?”
“That… quit it now or else… I'll rip you apart!” I growled, turning around angrily, anyone would think I was talking to a human being. Unfortunately, that wasn't it. I was talking to my inner self, it was weird, but I could hold a heated conversation with her, I called her Angela. “Even Fe doesn't like it”my inner self scolded, and I sensed a hint of mockery in her tone, glancing down it was my pet ferret tugging at my feet
“No now Fe… I'm late for school” I said shoving my ferret away
Ahh! This was causing me anxiety, dad already called me like a thousand times to get ready, unfortunately, I couldn't decide what to wear.
“Sexy or hot”
“Cute and bubbly”
“Lame and nerdy”
My inner self and I debated on the various outfits I placed on the bed to choose from
“Red and blue, eww Nellie… wear jeans and a crop shirt”my inner self mocked when I picked up a red skirt and a blue blouse.
“It's not a fashion show dummy… plus I'd rather not draw attention to myself”I scoffed and picked something else. My inner self had crazy ideas when it came to fashion. I was different. I liked hiding my skin not exposing my skin.
“That doesn't look good… it's your first day” Angela scoffed, and I ignored her. Ferret, on the other hand, was busy trying to get my attention by clawing at the long skirt I was wearing
“Shoo… go away Fe,” I said, kicking him away. He was so annoying. Every so often I just wished dad never rescued him from the animal control a few blocks away. Unfortunately, dad was like superman
I shifted around and ended up standing in front of the mirror. Looking at my reflection, maybe Angela was right, the black long skirt didn't go well with my dress shirt
Curse my sense of fashion!
However, I was trying everything I could to keep this low profile.
“Nellie honey! Three more minutes!” I heard my dad shouting from downstairs, and I was screwed.
“Damn it… is the hair alright, “I asked, not sure if to let my hair down or tie it in a ponytail. Angela was doing nothing to help me.
Soon I packed my books and calculator in my blue backpack and rushed out of my room
“Dad… I'm so sorry. I thought”I said running down the few stairs, “dad…” I called out when I reached the living room.our house was small, with just two bedrooms on the upper case. A small living room with just a sizable bookshelf and a fireplace. There was no dining room, just a small kitchen where dad did all his cooking with me. Truth be told, I sucked at cooking
There was an attic and a basement. Dark and creepy
“Dad. This isn't funny, where are you?” I shouted when I searched the living room and kitchen unfortunately he wasn't there.
The old man was strange.he kept on yelling my name non-stop but when I get downstairs, he wasn't there
“Gotcha!” he yelled from behind creeping me out that I nearly fell from fright only to be engulfed in his arms
“Dad… how could you” he startled me greatly that I swore I could have had a heart attack. Both of us hugged and chuckled.
“Good morning princess… I assume you slept well… I packed breakfast and lunch and cookies too”dad said moving away and reaching for a food bag
“Dad… this isn't middle school…” he was something else to treat me like a kid. I was a beautiful young lady, a 17 years old girl in high school
“And that's a lot of perfume,” he remarked sniffing me and the air. Of course, I had to wear a lot of perfume. I used four different perfumes. He knew the reason
“It's not that much dad” I shrugged, and he chuckled, and we walked out of the house
“Not a chance young lady… I'll be away until the evening… Don't want you running around on an empty stomach,” he said in between chuckles, and guided me to his truck. Hena was dad's old truck. A vintage 1981 Jeep. We had it since I wasn't even born
“Come on dad… you can let me drive Hena… you can't let me date… what's with you”I was worried about myself, especially my future
“Young lady… I'll fly to that school and knock out all the teeth from any boy who tried to look at my princess,” he said with a warning glare and started the car
The entire trip dad was making me go through all the dad rules. If anyone had a dad like me, they'd go crazy, freak out, and lose it.
Shifting my gaze, I peeked out the care window. Staring out and spotted people walking around. The town we moved to was small and cold. It had countless swamps and woods. I saw a few kids play in the streets. Screaming and having fun
How good would it be to be there? I shrugged only to realize the car had stopped
“So… I know this school isn't”
“Dad. It's okay… I love it…” I said, cutting him off before he could say anything. I saw his change of expression when I was going to a private school. Everyone knew private schools were expensive and full of rich kids
“Princess if anyone bullies you… don't hesitate to call me” he said cupping my face. He kissed me on the forehead and I did the same on the cheek
“Bye old man” I teased and stormed out of the car. Stepping my feet on the school grounds. A cold breeze greeted me, blowing my black hair across my face.
Draping my back over my shoulder, a warm, fuzzy feeling filled my stomach. I heard dad's car whoosh away. The old truck could be heard from a mile away. It was about to die. Unfortunately, the old man fixed it somehow
keeping that aside, my eyes feasted on the glorious surroundings. The school was lovely, beautiful just like I saw in the brochure
The town was small, but the school was prestigious. Inhaling that rich fresh air. My lips curled upwards as I prepare to rush towards the entrance of the school when
“Get out of the way!”
“Move it bitch!”
I heard yells from boys and the squashing of car tires. Turning around. My eyes widened when I saw a red sports car coming towards me at a high speed…my body stiffened, frozen in place as adrenaline rushed through me. I couldn't move out of the way and then the car seemed to be out of control
people around gasped in awe because I was dead.
Was this how I died? Getting hit by a car on my first day.
“Get out of the way.” I heard a different male voice say, and in no time. Someone pushed me away with enough force that I landed on the hard ground with a thud.
