"Run, Leigh! Run!"
"Get out of here!
"Hide somewhere safe."
"Mom, I can't leave you here!"
"You have to go! They should not see you."
"Listen to us, Leigh."
Leigh woke up from her deep sleep and gasped for air, her eyes were fixed at the room's ceilling. The darkness made her breathing worst so she sat on her bed and turned on her lamp on her bed side table, she leaned her back on her bedrest and focused herself on gasping for air.
Those words have been on repeat since she does not know when. Ever since that thing happened it has been playing and replaying on her head while she's asleep every night. Rest is not a rest for her anymore as that nightmare does not want her to sleep peacefully and soundly.
Three knocks on the door was heard outside her room, she stared at it as it was slowly opening. Suddenly, a figure of a woman appeared and checked her up.
"You're still awake. It's 2 A.M, is there something bothering you?" Merry, her older sister, she was almost whispering, she locked the door and slowly went closer to Leigh, trying her best not to make any noise to wake up other people.
"I slept and I just woke up. Just a nightmare but I'm good," Leigh explained and moved a little to give Merry a space to sit on her bed. "The same nightmare again?" Merry asked and received a simple nod from Leigh. She smiled fakely trying to lift the mood because she sensed that whatever happened in that nightmare on Leigh's dream, it really affected her mood.
"They are not letting me sleep at night peacefully. They keep on repeating, everynight, ever since that thing happened. And at the exact time," Leigh opened up and lay on her bed, Merry, the woman sitting next to her just looking at her every movement and every minute and every words that coming out of Leigh's mouth, she was pondering a better words to say in response.
"Maybe they do not want to because they are not in peace as well," for Merry that was kimd of creepy, but that was the only word that fits and would make sense.
Leigh looked at her with a furrowed forehead, confused on what she just said. Merry also threw a look at her in return and they were like that for a quiet a seconds not until Leigh surrendered and gave up from staring at her. She just realized that what Merry said could actually be true.
"My parents died right in front of my eyes, that day at 2 A.M. I was still a kid, so young, and so naive. Obviously, I can't do anything to them. I was so small, my feet, my hands, my body, I was physically incapable of helping them. Because of that, I hid somewhere I know that I can't be seen while my family was screaming for help and pain. I was sobbing silently, funny to think that I still know how to make myself safe but I did not know what can I do to help and make them safe at that time," tears were forming slowly on Leigh's eyes while she was telling a story behind her nightmare. Apparently, that dream, those words, were actually happened in real life.
It was not just a part of her chaotic brain.
How painful it is to feel and to think that the most excruciating and worst scenario happened once in her life, kept on repeating on her dream. Then it feels like it is happening every single night. The pain she felt before, she will feel it over and over again.
"Are you blaming yourself for what happened to your family?" Merry asked as she caressed Leigh's scalp gently, trying to atleast lessen his sadness and make her calm. "Do I look like I am blaming myself? If yes, then I am," she responded and wiped the side of her eyes with the back of her hand.
"I don't know if my words will still matter or would it still give you somehow a light to that darkness in your mind. But, what happened to your family was not your fault and will never be your fault. I know they are happy that you are here with us now, safe and sound. I know that they somehow think and asked the heavens to help them survive, but Leigh... I'm telling you, it is not your fault. That nightmare that kept on repeating while you are asleep does not justify your innocence. You were still a kid," Merry explained. Leigh sighed heavily and tears were still falling but she was trying to stop them.
"Yeah, I was a kid. I was so physically uncapable. I do really hate since then what kind of a person I am. Our identity is as same as them, our we going to be like them? Am I going to be like them? Am I born to kill the people I belong to?" Questions are flooding Merry, she does not know if those questions were rhetorical or does it really needs an answer to her confused mind?
Their identity, their bloodline was not a normal identity or bloodline that most people think. They possessed a power and transformation that only in books existed, and maybe that was why they are away, too far away from civilization, because normal people are a threat to them, and they are a threat for normal people.
"No, Leigh. We are not supposed to do that. Maybe, it was because of a quarrel, a quarrel that leads to something inappropriate to happen or to do,"
"That was not just an inappropriate actions, Merry. It was more than that. It was cruel. What lead them to deprive a child a family?" Merry did not respond anymore to her questions and just let Leigh shed tears for that night until she gets tired and fell asleep. As soon as Leigh fell asleep, she left her in her room silently while her heart was still filled with sadness because of Leigh's life before.
