"Is that Cairo?" Felice asked.
We are in the hallway of the College of Engineering overlooking the soccer field and benches.
"Did you two break up?" Sandra asked as well.
They are both looking at me now. But I did not answer and went straight on my way. Hiding the deep sigh I made.
I thought we were okay?
"You should stop seeing that guy, Sol. He's no longer good for you." Felice said. I still did not speak. I entered the room and sat in the first row. The two of them followed and sat on either side of me. They said more things about Cairo and my relationship to him but I did not listen anything; I just let them speak. That is not my priority right now. It is already the second week of the second semester and since we are in our fourth year, the subjects will be heavy. We are taking Civil Engineering, we will be in our fifth year next academic year so we need to be more serious this time. I can't lose my scholarship for a superficial reason.
"Sol, how will I do this one? I can't understand the instructions." Felice complained.
I turned to face her, "Just like this." I said and explained to her how to solve the math problem. She immediately understand my explanation and started answering on her own; she got it right away and I let her answer her quiz alone.
"Pass your paper." Prof. Delos Santos said. I immediately got up and passed.
Prof. Delos Santos scanned my paper and grinned. I know that, he does that when I perfectly answered his quizzes. I nodded and went back to my chair.
"You got it perfect again," Sandra commented, she also saw it.
"Road to Summa Cum Laude, nice nice!" Jeff commented too.
He's a friend since first year.
"We wish we're as smart as you," Brian said. I just smiled at them and shook my head.
"Instead of asking for something really impossible, why don't you start studying hard? You two done nothing but flirt with the lower years! Gosh." Felice said. "Huh! Look who's speaking... You should be thankful that you're friend with Sol, because if not, you have probably failed," Jeff answered. "The hell, Jeff! I don't cheat," Felice said, punching Jeff on the shoulder.
"I didn't said you were copying! You are so defensive," Jeff said. "Sol, teach us too please, have mercy for us, aren't we friends?" He added.
I just shook my head and arranged things. We're already dismissed but they haven't moving yet.
"Come on, Sol. Teach us please, we will bring you your lunch and snacks." Jeff repeated as we exited the room.
I sighed.
They're so persistent because they're desperate.
"All right. This afternoon at 3pm sharp, in our vacant." I answered.
I heard Felice and Sandra buck but they couldn't speak yet. Jeff and Brian would definitely teased them.
"Why did you agree?" They asked when the three of us were alone and in the canteen for lunch break.
I shrugged.
"We will also study at that time. Let's just have them join us. They are also out friends and it's not wrong to help them." I answered.
"They might ruin our study session." Felice.
"Let's just see." I said.
I actually don't mind. It is not a big deal for me to teach them. I have been doing that for a long time with both Sandra and Felice, they are just being brat to Jeff and Brian.
My phone beeped. It's a text from Cairo.
[Kai: Where are you?] My brows creased.
What now?
[Canteen.] I replied.
Memories of him at the field flashes back on my head. We had a fight a week ago and just made up last night. But seeing him again at the field and back to his annoying habit, annoys me as well. He was with Elaine, that girl had always been the reason of our fights.
He told me that there's nothing going on between them two, but that's not what I see, of us all. They were too close to not think they are not a thing. Friends would not act like that. I just need an evidence to prove it and by then, it will be over.
[Kai: With Sandra and Felice again?]
[Who else do you think?] I replied again.
[Kai: You're always with them!]
[ And you're always with Elaine. I saw you earlier.]
[Kai: Are we gunna talk about this again? Aren't you tired with this issue?] My brow arched. The audacity.
I didn't reply more. I just let him bombarded me with text messages. I put my phone on a silent mode before putting it inside my bag.
He knows where I am, he can come to me if he wants.
"Have you decided what concept you will do for Prof Salmiente's project?" Felice asked.
I shrugged. I haven't thought about that one yet, because I've been busy these past few days.
"I haven't thought of anything, but maybe next week I'll start working for that. The deadline is still months away." I answered.
"Great. I thought you're already working on it. I was pressured for nothing." Felice said.
"Pressured? Why?" I asked, confused.
Felice smiled and nodded. "Because I thought you already conceptualize your project. You're so smart that sometimes, I find it hard to keep up with you," she said.
"You thought of that?" I asked, guilty that she feels like that towards me.
Felice laugh, a humorless one. "Who wouldn't? You're Marie Sol; beauty, brain and kindness. Everyone would feel the same, right, Sands?" She answered, asking for Sandra's confirmation.
Sandra nodded. "But that's nothing you have to worry. We're actually thankful that despite of all the trouble we were causing you sometimes, you still treat us the same. You always choose to be kind not just to us but everyone," she said.
I feel guiltier hearing those from them. I reached for their hand and squeezed it. "I don't know that you feel like that and I'm very sorry," I apologise.
The two laugh.
"We're just kidding, Sol! You're so gullible!" Felice said and nudge my shoulder.
